Remarkable Pedigree
For 21 years dCS has been defining what is possible with digital audio and setting the standard for audio transparency.
Founded in 1987 we began as an electronics consultancy company designing and testing high performance Analogue to Digital Converter's (ADC), Digital to Analogue Converters (DAC) and signal processing systems for major corporations and military agencies.
Our remarkable pedigree can be traced back to this experience in military avionics and satellite communications since digital audio and radar share a similar requirement to ‘see' into the noise floor at exceedingly low levels.
Our first love was always music and the approach we took in these early projects along with the flexible architecture of the products we developed enabled us to achieve a string of audio firsts, particularly related to new and emerging digital formats.
Our first audio product was the 900 ADC which was the world's first 24 bit Audio A/D converter.
Around the same time we launched the dCS 250 ADC/DAC Measurement System as we found that the performance of our technology exceeded the capability of available test equipment. This development of highly accurate test equipment continues today.
The dCS 900 soon earned a reputation in pro circles as an outstanding converter and the choice of many classical recording studios when the closest fidelity to the original source was needed.
In 1993 the dCS 902 was released which was the world's first ADC capable of sampling at frequencies beyond the standard 48 kHz. The dCS 902 sampled at rates from 24 up to 88.2 and 96 kS/s.
In 1994 we launched the 950 and 952 which were also capable of 24/96 kS/s operation and in 1995 we launched the 900 D /ADC which for the first time made use of field programmable gate arrays (FPGA's) and allowed us to add new features and support new digital formats without the hardware becoming obsolete.
During the 1990's our experience in the pro industry and their demand for the best in sonic performance meant we became the choice of studios and engineers including Abbey Road, Pink Floyd engineer James Guthrie, Bob Ludwig and Metropolis.
